How to Create a Datastore in Esxi 5.1 Step by Step with Screenshots.

Question:What is Datastore and why we need to create it.
Answer:Vmware vSphere Datastores are Storage locations for Virtual Machine.Datastores could be on Local Server Hard disk or anywhere in the network Storage like SAN,NAS,NFS and ISCSI Storage.Datastores are used to store the virtual machine files like VMDK,NVRAM,LOG,ISO IMAGES and other files.We can create a  Datastore in the formate of VMFS(Virtual Machine File System).
Please find the below step to create a Datastore in VMware vSphere 5.1 you can follow the same step in VMware vSphere 5.5 and 6.0 to create a Datastore.
Step 1:Login into VMware vSphere Client and Select inventory option.



Step 2 :Here it is showing so Select Storage option and go to the Configurations Tab and Click on Add Storage.

Step 3 Here it is showing Storage type so just Select Disk/LUN option and click on Next.

Step 4 : Here it is showing Local Disk so just select disk and click on Next.

Step 5 :Here it is Showing VMFS file System Version so Just Select VMFS-5 and click on Next.
Step 6 :Here it is showing Current Disk Layout so just click on Next.
Step 7 :Here you need to Enter Datastore Name for identity so put the Datastore name and click Next.
Step 8 :Here you can specify the Datastore Size as per your requirement so specify the size and click Next.
Step 9 :Here it is showing Datastore Properties so verify and click on Next.
Step 10 :Now you can see we have successfully created a Datastore.
